Puri–Koraput Express Flagged Off, Strengthening Connectivity and Tribal Economy

The Puri–Koraput Express was flagged off, improving rail connectivity between coastal and southern Odisha. The new train service is expected to boost trade, tourism and economic opportunities in the Koraput region.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the train will help promote local products such as Kruti Koraput Coffee, which is grown by tribal farmers in the Eastern Ghats. Known for its unique chocolate and nutty flavour, the coffee has gained recognition as a specialty product and has created livelihood opportunities for thousands of tribal farmers and women involved in its cultivation, processing and marketing.

Better rail connectivity is expected to improve market access for Koraput Coffee and other local products, while also encouraging tourism and supporting the region’s economy.

Earlier, Mr. Vaishnaw, along with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, reviewed railway preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra in Puri. The review focused on crowd management, passenger safety and operational readiness.

Indian Railways has planned to run more than 300 special trains for the festival. Holding areas for over 30,000 devotees, additional ticket counters and food facilities are also being arranged to ensure smooth travel during the Rath Yatra.
